What is a charity? Who are the charity trustees?
Context
The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh is a charity, regulated by OSCR, the Scottish Charity Regulator.
Because the College is a charity, it must comply with charity law. It should also follow OSCR guidance.
This section of the website explains what a charity is, and what this means for the College's Council and trustees.
The Resources section of the website contains extra information which we hope will be helpful, eg links to legislation and downloadable guidance from OSCR.
Charity law is wide-ranging, covering all aspects of running a charity.
This website would be unmanageably huge if we tried to include everything, so we have picked out the most relevant elements here.
Some of it might be dry reading, and we know that Fellows and Members have extremely busy working lives. Your focus is on medicine - not charity law and governance.
So the summary below is intended to help Fellows and Members understand the reasons behind the governance changes proposed by Council.
